I believe we do mankind a disservice when we continue to classify modern man as homosapiens. We have evidence which distinguishes between the Neanderthal and the more recent Cro-Magnon. And while there may still exist vestiges of these earlier humanoid gene pools; the advent of the first man in the Judeo – Christian biblical heritage should be classified as a different gene pool in the evolutionary progression of human development. 

The first man in our cycle of evolutionary history is Adam. And what distinguished this man from earlier human prototypes is his soul. In particular, it is his divine soul. Adam was so different from Cro-Magnon that I believe it is inaccurate to classify him as homosapien just as it is inaccurate to classify Cro-Magnon with Neanderthal prototypes.

Adam was fashioned by our Creator to have the capacity to relate to Him directly and to embody His Spirit. Therefore it is appropriate to reclassify him as homotheodorus indicating that this new human prototype has the potential of evolving his divine soul to correctly love and accurately emulate and embody the psychological attributes or Spirit of His Maker. With this potential for evolution into a god-like human came accountability. And with accountability came the responsibility of remembering history ACCURATELY and relating it FAITHFULLY. Our first progenitor was given freewill and the ego, with its human or animal soul’s appetites and natural impulses to master. Man’s mastery and accountability for his progress in actualizing his potential would need to be recorded for future generations whose own progress would depend, in part, on learning from the evolutionary progress or proclivities of prior generations. This new man was also different from his predecessors in that his Maker provided him with the ability to control his destiny. In other words, He gave this new man the power of co-partnering with Him.    

To help mankind move along the evolutionary ladder, the Creator provided the new man with laws. Man was accountable for compliance with Divine laws. And his destiny would be a history of compliance and non-compliance and the results produced by his free will acting in his soul’s best interest.  Adam’s first challenge came when our first forefather was presented with the first law. While he was yet alone, God told him to abstain from eating the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, which was in the middle of the Garden of Eden where he lived. God subsequently provided our father, Adam with our first mother. Eve was made of a finer composite than was Adam in that she was taken out of his own protoplasm. She was somewhat different from her husband physically and psychologically. She had alluring beauty and a persona animated by an undeveloped feeling and understanding of the nature of godliness. Adam needed to overcome his childish jealousy for primal position as the object of his Creator’s attention by focusing outward and loving and caring for his own flesh and blood. Since he was given the first law to remember and since the Hebrew word for male is synonymous with remembering, Adam’s first act should have been to faithfully transmit the law to his partner. Adam knew he was accountable for doing this, but he failed. Instead of accurately providing his partner with the vitally and critically important facts, Adam fabricated a competing law.

In Adam’s psyche the yearning for actualizing his destined potential led him to deceive his partner and defy his Maker. While it was true that his destiny was to evolve into a god-like human, this evolution was clearly stipulated as being the result of his progress in successfully complying with the laws made by the Creator. By fabricating a competing law and transmitting it to his partner, Adam was acting in the place of God and Eve thought she was now in possession of the Law.

The evolutionary dynamics in Adam and Eve were to have been mastered by simple compliance with God’s law. Adam failed to love his partner and cherish her life enough to provide her with the factual Law given to him in trust by his Maker. His yearning to evolve to become god-like should have caused him to remember the essential requirement to be accountable for the Law, which was given to him by his Maker. By feeling god-like without complying with his Maker’s Law, Adam was creating a new creation of his own which would be governed by him and his fabricated law or laws. In effect, Adam was competing with his Maker. Eve, for her part yearned for her destined potential to be god-like. This yearning was in her subliminal consciousness because she was made a female, which in Hebrew signifies intention. She had in her psyche a memory of her god-like state to which she would evolve in the material world. When she was told by the serpent that she could actually attain this potential state by simply eating the forbidden fruit, her ego got ahead of her soul with desire for fulfillment of her destined evolution. And like her partner she failed to comply with the essential requirement for this evolution, i.e., the faithful compliance with God’s law. 

In both of our forebears’ situations, their intentions were to become their destined selves. The absence of malice can be inferred by Adam’s contrition, which he sheepishly, fearfully and cowardly expressed by blaming God for giving him a partner who failed to comply. Had Adam faithfully transmitted God’s Law instead of fabricating an ersatz law or substitution, history may have evolved differently. But man, having free will and an ego, is in a constant  battle to remember to evolve through compliance with his Maker’s Law while his ego wants to lure him into acting god-like by fabricating his own laws. His ego’s desire to feel and act god-like is exactly what prevents him from actually becoming god-like.

The history of Adam and the rest of our ancestors is actually a psychological drama involving the genuine desire to evolve through compliance and the egoistic desire to act in the place of God. This is the core of the political drama between conservative American Constitutional constructionists who advocate for freedom of expression including the freedom of their entrepreneurial choices to be managed by the individual and the liberal – now – Marxist regime in Washington which seeks to act in place of God by establishing a new creation based on their fabricated laws. This is also the core of the political drama that raged in ancient Israel between rival interest groups – none of whom knew at that time who would win supremacy over the nation. The Sadducees were the priests who were charged by God’s Law to administer to needs of the temple and to the faithful execution of the Law. They were the ones who successfully led the revolt against the Greek occupiers and insisted on maintaining governing authority, which was to remain in the Davidic dynasty. The Pharisees were a self-proclaimed group of expositors of the Law. They claimed descent from the 70 elders who temporarily received Moses’ spirit when Moses felt overly encumbered by the duties of governing the nation. The Essenes were a group of purists who dropped out of society to live in the Judean desert. And the Siccari were revolutionaries who fomented revolt from the Roman occupiers.

The Pharisees promoted the concept of an oral law, which they applied to attain influence with the people. The Pharisees’ gambit was successful because the people were lured to participate in Hellenic culture, but still wanted to feel like they were in compliance with God. Following the oral law allowed them to entertain this fantasy. The Priests denied that governorship belonged to the Davidic dynasty by denying the prophesy of the coming of a divinely anointed messiah, but they also denied the veracity of the oral law of the Pharisees. The Essenes believed in the coming of a messiah from the Davidic dynasty, but like their brethren, the priestly Levites, they too, denied the veracity of the oral law. However, the Essenes wanted no part of the political power sharing played out by their brethren.

What all these groups forgot, except possibly the Essenes, is that it was their egos, which were conspiring to create a society which was not in compliance with God’s Law. The absence of accountability in the face of successive conquests by foreign powers finally led to an extended, biblically prophesied, exile of almost 2000 years. During the course of the exile the nation and their leaders developed a society faithful to the oral law of the Pharisees. The ensuing history of punishments should have led to reflection and reconsideration of the cause of the nation’s suffering. However, the ego is very powerful and becomes even more powerful and entrenched as its influence establishes a civilization replete with all the alluring trappings of the other nations among which the nation of Israel lived. Today, in the year 2009, 70 years after the beginning of the Holocaust, the nation of Israel is faced with another Holocaust. What this nation at risk fails to remember is that God created the nation of Israel to provide the rest of mankind with the prototype for human evolution. Israel is accountable for transmitting – precisely, accurately and faithfully - and complying with God’s Law. Compliance would earn the prophesied blessings, which would attract worldwide interest in the evolutionary path established by the Creator. And failure to comply and intransigence in the face of successive punishments would lead to such destruction as would strike shock and awe in the rest of mankind and lead them to struggle to find favor with God. It is Israel’s failure and the need of the rest of mankind to find favor with God that has led – in part - to the development of the modern world’s religions. This failure has also been a key feature in the fabrication of laws by these other religions. The ego, after all is a non-partisan, equal opportunity master. 

So as we scan the religious landscapes of the twenty-first century, we see a parade of clerical figures celebrating the success of manmade, fabricated law. But just as the emperor who marched through his kingdom in the children’s fairy tale, “The Emperor’s New Clothes”, regaled in his divinely fabricated apparel, to the cheers of his subjects, until one small boy shouted that he was naked; this author is shouting that all of man’s clerical figures are naked of any faithfulness to God’s Law.  This parade of illusion is not really tolerable to the world which still has a dormant, if not active yearning to attain its evolutionary potential. Humanity is somewhat – perhaps just dimly - aware that it is Israel who must attain its evolution before they too can evolve and enjoy God’s bounty. As a result the world punishes Israel collectively for its failure, intransigence and refusal to be the faithful role model which can lead them out of the universal suffering caused by their inability to know, understand and comply with God’s true and actual Law. The anti-Semitism, to which Israel constantly points, is not due to a hatred of Jews. It is a hatred of the ersatz or egoistically fabricated Jew who refuses to comply with and live by God’s Law and thereby act as the faithful role model for the other nation’s to follow !

Make no mistake about it, the Creator designed mankind to honor Him and the faithful bearers and representatives of HIS LAW. There is only one group of intransigent humanity which the Creator commanded Israel to obliterate entirely, lock, stock and memory. But who knows if Amalek will not transmogrify into a compliant part of the human family if Israel first adopts the teaching and application of God’s Divine Torah Law.

At this crossroads in mankind’s evolutionary roadmap, the indicators are that egotism in Israel will prevent the nation from adopting its true and destined national identity predicated upon compliance with the Divine Law of God. Instead of the nation’s soul being animated by the Law it will remain animated by the egoistically fabricated laws. Instead of Israel being the faithful servants of God who can defeat all foes with unparalleled victories, Israel remains the global victim running to and fro looking for help from other nations. Instead of fearing God alone, this Jewish victim fears everyone. Instead of allowing the few liberated and evolved Israelites to take the helm and provide Divine leadership. The ersatz leadership of egoists prefers to maintain control and march before the people just like the naked emperor – even if they destroy the nation AGAIN.

During this Yom Kippur, let us pray, both for the miracle of Israel realizing her true identity as faithful bearers and representatives of God’s Law, and for the merciful pardoning of our  intransigence if we fail yet again.
